Shelter in Schools
shelter in schools program
The Jersey Shore Animal Center has launched our Shelter in Schools Program in order to provide Humane Education to children about adopting a shelter pet and the basic responsibilities of pet ownership. We feel it is especially important to teach the lessons of kindness, respect and responsibility to our youngsters. Children who respect animals are more inclined to transfer those same feelings to other living beings, including the people around them.
Our shelter and your school can make a wonderful team in the effort to help children become a more caring and loving person. We will send a shelter representative and an animal currently up for adoption to an assembly or into a smaller classroom environment for a short lecture or slide show followed by a question and answer period. These sessions last 30-60 minutes and our topics can vary from animal safety, dog/cat care, “working dogs”, shelter life or careers with animals.
Note: The shelter needs at least 3 weeks advanced notice in order to schedule our visit to you.
