Adopted January 2009: Donovan (formerlly known as Nubbins)

Hello, I had adopted Donovan (aka Nubbins) from you in January of 2009. I want to tell that he is doing great and enjoys his walks around the neighborhood during the day! He has meet many new dogs around the area and loves going to the park (especially the car ride!) when the weather is nice. Although, most of the time he just enjoys laying on the couch and snuggling up to me. Since not much was known about him, you would be glad to know that he is housebroken, knows a few tricks, and is always wagging that tiny tail of his. Thank you guys for letting me give him his forever home!

Adopted January 2010; Lila, (formerlly known as Yoga)

We wanted to let you know how Miss Lila (formerly "Yoga") is doing since we adopted her in January. She is fully house trained and has the curiosity of a cat! She enjoys neighborhood walks, visits to the Oceanport dog park and socializing with the other dogs in the family. When we take her out, people we encounter seem to be very drawn to her and she loves the attention so much that when they ask what breed she is we tell them she is an Attention Hound! She has become best buddies with our Shih Tzu Sparky, and they are inseparable. She adapted to her crate easily and often goes in to take a nap on her own. She loves to play with the many  doggie toys we have, as well as watch the birds, squirrels and chipmunks that frequent the yard. She even returned to JSAC for the dog wash last month for a bath. We are very happy to have her as a part of our family!

Adopted in 1996: Shannon (formally known as Pointsetta)

I just wanted to send this thank you email for the opportunity to have adopted a dog from your shelter in 1996.  We have recently had to put her down due to being elderly and other health issues relating to getting older. She was 17 1/2 years old and had the best times with her.  I again want to thank you for the opportunity to share our lives with her.  I have been telling everyone to adopt dogs from shelters and not from pet stores as these dogs that are at the shelter do appreciate being adopted.

Adopted June 2009: Darla Jo (formerly known as Slinky)

My husband, Tom and I adopted Darla Jo (was Slinky) in June of 2009. She is a wonderful girl and we are very happy to have her. She gets along great with our boy, Lars. They have become buddies. Although she is much older than we were told we knew old dogs need homes too. She has bad hips and once we put her on Rimadyl she gets around much better and even plays with the big boy. Here are some pictures of our kids.

Thanks again to all the staff at Jersey Shore Animal Center.

Adopted December 2009: Pumpkin and Skipper (formerly known as Hattrick)

Hi,

We adopted these two babies last December 12.   The orange tabby is Pumpkin, and the black cat is Skipper.   They are almost 10 months old now, and doing just fine!   They love running through the house, playing and wrestling with each other!   We are very happy to have them as part of the family.

Skipper is now 12 lbs and the vet doesn't think he's finished growing yet! They keep saying, Look at the size of those feet! He's going to be a big one!  He's the lover.   Pumpkin is more slender and the acrobat and mischievous one! I tell people that Pumpkin is ?Jimi Hendrix acid rock, and Skipper is Margaritaville that describes their personalities very accurately.

Thank you for being there and taking care of these adorable cats until we were brought together!

Adopted March 2010: Shadow (formerly known as Tigger)

Hello, everyone!  We just wanted to send you a note with some pictures of Tigger, who we now have re-named Shadow.  We tried to do this before, but it wouldn't "send".  We adopted Shadow in February, and it was the best thing we ever did!  Shadow is a wonderful little boy, and our family loves him so much.  He is so well behaved and is such a family oriented dog.  If I lay on the rug he will pick himself up and come over to me and lay right next to me, with his head on me!  I have truly fallen in love with him.  He has only had one "accident" since his adoption, and that was in the first week or so.  He loves to run and play in the yard! I cannot imagine anyone ever abusing him, and I hate to think of what he had to endure from the time he was a puppy...but he is now in good hands!  We hope to bring him by at some point during the summer so that you can see him!  In any event, THANK YOU for allowing us to adopt this kind, gentle soul!  He is the light of my life!

Adopted February 2010: Teddy (formerly known as Chris)

Dear JSAC,

A little more than two months ago we adopted a beagle, who you were calling Chris from the shelter. When we took him I promised one of your staffers that I would send some pictures of him in his new home, sadly I can't recall her name. We have since renamed him Teddy (short for teddy bear). Here are six shots, I hope you enjoy them. The file names are a little long because I ripped them from my Facebook album.

Adopted April 2010: Blaze

We adopted Blaze recently and he's been wonderful!  He's extremely friendly, and has a ton of character!  He loves the toys I give him, and comes running over to the side of his pen to play his favorite game when I walk near.  (Sniffs my hand, then pushes his head into it for a pet, repeating as necessary!)  He's still locked up at night or when we're at work until we do a better job bunny proofing the room, he's turning into a real Houdini, waking me up once outside his pen, exploring the house!  I can't say enough good things about him, we love him very much and are very glad to have brought him home.

Bonding him with the bunny we already had has been interesting, they take turns being unhappy or curious about each other.  When Blaze is unhappy he'll hop right into my lap for safety and is all around adorable.  They're showing progress and we think it will turn out well.

We kept his name, Blaze, but we've given him the nickname puddle, because he sinks into a very comfortable puddle of fur and needs to work off some ounces!

Adopted March 2010 - Flopsy (formerly known was Kianna)

Flopsy (Came with the name Kianna) went home to Brick in March.  Her first few days she just wanted to cuddle up in her new friends lap. She was renamed Flopsy when she flops over instead of sitting after finding her spot to nap.   After a happy trip to the vet and learning where the litter box and food were, she became more secure and started to explore.  Her favorite toy is a catnip red strawberry and one of her favorite pastimes is looking out the windows and doors and watching the birds, squirrels and bunny rabbits. She is very loving and we still cuddle a lot.

Adopted January 8th 2010 - Maggie (Formerly Noodle)

Hey Everyone,

We just wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for bringing Maggie (aka Noodle) and out family together. She is adjusting very well in her new FOREVER home. In her first month with us she has let her sisters Sasha & Ruby (both min-pins) know that she is boss. They don't mind though since they were pretty much used to it from Bailey (aka Cocoa) who we adopted from you 3 yrs ago. She loves running through the 2 ft of snow we just had. She goes on walks, and really loves to play with her new toys. We hope she is as happy with us as we are with her.

We said it 3 yrs ago when we adopted Bailey from you that you people are very special in every way. What you do for these pets is totally AWESOME!!

We will keep you posted on Maggie and let you all know how she is doing.

Adotped: October 24th, 2009 - Marley (formerly Percy)

Hi guys! Thought you might be interested in seeing how Percy, now named Marley, has adapted to our home. As you can see by these pics he was meant to be here! He is extremely loveable and likes to be treated like a little Prince. He eats like a HORSE and plays like he never runs out of energy. He loves to be cuddled and rocked to sleep. Marley is the best and we love him to death. It was one week yesterday that we adopted him but it feels like he's always been here. Thanks guys for everything!

Hello,

We adopted Quigley (formerly known as Ashkii) on 10/31/09. He was the “sweetest” treat for our Halloween and he is doing really well in his new home! I’ve attached a picture of Quigley lounging in my daughter’s shoebox….he is really quite the entertainer and has become a loving part of our family…we all adore him!

Adopted April 18th, 2009 - Toni and Kita (formerly Toots and Lakita)

Dear Shelter,

Thank you so much for finding us a wonderful family who spoil us each day. We were known as Toots and Lakita when you found us in a field across from the Shelter.

Our new family found us at the shelter in April and brought us to our new home. My new mom, dad and sister Sam changed our names to Toni(black) and Kita. We get organic cat food to eat, sleep in our owners beds, get to jump on the kitchen counter and dinning room table when ever we want.

A few weeks ago, our new family donated 100 pounds of cat and dog food to those less fortunate as us.

We wanted to write and send you pictures of the family. Thank you so much for our new family members. Have a wonderful holiday.

Toni and Kita

Adopted: October 29th, 2009 - Lacey (formerly Jenga)

Lacey has been a great addition to the family! She is such a good kitten! She warmed up to her mommy right away, and always sleeps right by her side during the night. She has many many toys and is always getting into mischief! I could not have asked for a better cat!! =) She is also very very healthy and eats very well. Her first vet appt. she weighed 2 pounds 2 ounces. She has since probably gained a pound or two! I love her so much!

Adopted: October 12th, 2009 - Shelby (formely Baby)

To all my wonderful friends at Jersey Shore Animal Shelter!

Hi everyone! I haven't forgotten any of you! You were my temporary home for a very tough time in my life but now I am so happy!

It's been about 7 weeks since I was adopted by some very nice people and I just wanted to let you know I am doing just fine!  I go for long walks in the woods every day near my home and I am making lots of friends at the local Dog Park!  I have one more week to go at Dog Obedience school and my trainer, Peter, says I am doing great! I have learned so many new things at school and sometimes it is confusing but my Mommy makes sure I do my homework every day.  Peter is such a nice man and a good teacher and he always picks me out in class to show everyone how well I can follow his commands. I like to show off!  I think he is pretty happy with my progress because he suggested I sign up for Therapy Dog class!  Can you imagine? I am ready for higher learning!   I think I will sign up for this class because getting a good job today requires lots of training and I think I would be a good working dog!  Maybe one day I will come in for a short visit to see all of you but for now I just want you to know I am very happy and enjoy my new home very much. My people want to say thanks for taking good care of me while I was living with you.  Wishing you all Happy Holidays! Ruff-Ruff!

Love,

Shelby (formerly known as "Baby")

Adopted: September 2, 2009 - Kelly (formerly Angel)

It feels like a year since we adopted Kelly (Angel) (back of picture)..... But it actually has been three months! We are sorry that we didn't write right away, we wanted to get to know Kelly for a bit. She is now a happy little girl who loves her family. She now has a older brother named Elmer (in front in picture). They seem to be getting along now. On the day we adopted Kelly, she took over the house while Elmer ran and hid. She really loves to eat, her fur is nice and shiny, and she seem to have gotten darker as time passed. Kelly is a wonderful addition to the family and we love her! We are really looking forward to spending the holidays with her for the first time.

Adopted: August 8, 2009 - Prince Charming

He is wonderful cat!

We are so happy to welcome him as a family member. We all love him so much!

Sorry this has taken so much time to send this off. But we are very happy to report that Callie (aka Trinity) is growing by leaps and bounds. She is a character with a wonderful personality. She is a very strong and determined little girl! I have attached some pics for you to see.

Callie sends her love to you for taking such good care of her. I am sure she will not forget you!

Thanks too from all of us. Callie is a part of our family now and brings all of us so much joy!

Adopted: February 14th, 2009 - Sunshine

Thought you might enjoy seeing what a happy camper Sunshine is! She came to us with lots of love and affection from all of you and she is as sweet as could be. She is a Jersey Girl at heart...we travel back and forth from Phillipsburg to Seaside Park and when we get to the beach she knows that she is back on her home turf! It's pretty funny. I guess she recognizes that good shore air! Enjoy the photo.

Best wishes,

Mary V.

Adopted: February 28th, 2009 - Kiwi (formerly Blossom)

Our family had the great fortune to adopt Kiwi (formerly Blossom) from the Jersey Shore Animal Shelter in Brick.  She is about 6 months old in the photos but we adopted her around March 3rd 2009 when she was at least 8 weeks old.  She was one of a litter of 12!!!  She was named Kiwi because of her coloring and her hypnotic green eyes.  She is truly a love.  One of her best features are her ears as she has a different "ear-do" every moment of the day.  She is a Pitt Mix and Very loving.  We cannot say enough about this Shelter.  She was spayed, micro-chipped, collared and leashed when we came to pick her up.  The staff worked with all of the pups daily which was great for us to know and appreciate how well they were handled.  We only wish someone would adopt her sweet Mama who is still there.

Hopefully some of the other people who adopted from this litter will write in as we would love to see some of the others as they are growing up so fast.  We loved the photos of Cassidy!!!

Adopt from this shelter.  It was a great experience for the entire family.

Adopted: June 19th, 2008 - Malibu "Bu Bun" Bunny (formerly Surfer Girl) and Moondoggie (formerly Buster)

Hi!  Let me (re-) introduce Malibu "Bu Bun" Bunny (formerly Surfer Girl) and Moondoggie (formerly Buster), who have lived with me now for 1 year and 1 week.  I waited a full 2 years after my "J.J. Flash" died to take on another high-maintenance bunny . . . or in this case, a PAIR of bunnies!  Bu Bun is the one with one ear up and one ear down, and with more brown fur than white.

Like every other rescue animal, they chose me!  I guess they knew that their new mom would give them lots of fresh veggies in addition to their pellets and hay.  They especially like the timothy "caves" they can crawl into and then chew to pieces!  They've taken over the 2nd bedroom as their own playroom -- with all electrical cords, etc. secured.  That's where they are whenever I'm home.  While I'm at work, they have a 2-story hutch, which was initially divided into 2 separate hutches, until I was assured they were compatible.  Now they're inseparable --- grooming each other, napping next to each other, and doing "the Bunny 500" in tandem around my living room!

Last month when my beautiful 13-year old calico rescue kitty, Cleo, sadly died.  Since then, they've been happy to have more attention and nuzzling time and to have more time to run free throughout the house.  They don't think I should get another cat, although about 4 candidates have been offered to me!   I don't dare walk into JCAC or Petsmart!!!  The only thing that has allowed me to "window shop" the kitties in the past was that Cleo would not tolerate another cat.  Curiously, she was SCARED of the bunnies!  JJ was dominant and so she expected that Bu Bun and Moondoggie would challenge her - and they never had to!

Another happy ending - 2 spoiled bunnies and their servant -
Robin

Adopted: March 25th, 2009 - Katie (formerly Cecelia)

Greetings to all of you at the center! We wanted to share with you how blessed we've been with the adoption of Katie (Cecelia) on March 25, 2009.  She has brought so much joy to our family.  She adapted very well to her new home.  She loves children and wants to play all the time.

She has also become addicted to walking.  One morning she decided she wanted to go for a moonlight walk at 1:30 am.  We told her that 1:30 am is too early to go walking.  She then fell asleep until 4:30 am.  By 5:00 we were on our way.  Since then, she is doing better with her wake up call. She wakes us up every morning between 5 & 5:30 to go for her daily 3 1/2 mile walk.  She's keeping us in good shape! Attached are some pictures we hope you will enjoy!

Adopted: January 13th, 2009 - Dominic

It's been a little over 6 months since Dominick came to be part of the family. He's grown a little and does get along well with his brother Chester. He has a little issue with being amorous in the middle of the night- so if I wake up he instantly knows and wants to mush. Otherwise - he's fairly independent. His latest thing is he either chases me down the stairs and tries to attack my ankles or he does this (see picture) with the psycho face and acts like he's going to jump while I holler at him, "use the stairs".

Adopted: May 12, 2009 Tootsie (formerly Matilda)

We had lost our beloved cat Shelby to a congenital heart defect just two weeks before we went to the Jersey Shore Animal Shelter.  Our plan was to find a young cat or a kitten and I had my heart set on another grey tabby.  That was how it was until we met Matilda.  She had been living at the shelter for over a year and she had been, they guessed, about a year old when she was brought to the shelter.  She's tortie with the darkest face I have ever seen on a cat, even her whiskers are black.  She was more than a little shy but she let us hold her when we met her and we knew, without a doubt, she would be coming home with us as quickly as possible.

Tootsie (short for Tootsie Roll because she is chocolaty and orange!) has adapted to our home and to us quite well in the past two weeks.  She is sweet, and while not a lap cat, she sleeps at the foot of our bed, cuddled against my leg, every night.  She makes us laugh a lot because she seems to talk to herself when she walks...in a sort of high pitch squeak...and she holds her tail high in the air...where it waves and bends like a snake... when she walks.  She love to play especially chasing the beam of a laser light and she follows me from room to room when I walk around the house.

We wondered why such a sweet cat lived in the shelter for so long overlooked by so many people.  But now we know why, she was waiting for us!  Thank you Jersey Shore Animal Shelter for giving us just the cat we never knew we wanted!

Cynthia and John B.

Adopted: May 1st, 2009 - Benjamin

Hello, It’s Benjamin. You remember me, right? I spent a short time with you back in April. You gave me all my shots, you neutered me, and gave me a chip so I don’t get lost again and end up back there. Well, even if I do, my mom & dad won’t be far behind. Pretty cool!

While I really appreciate the wonderful people at the shelter, I’ll never forget the day my new mommy & daddy walked into the room. I was sleeping. I woke up, stretched, looked right at them, and meowed.

It didn’t take them long to realize that I chose them; not the other way around. A week later, I was picked up and taken to my new home.

As soon as I got there, I knew there were changes that had to be made, but I had to play it smart. I acted very timid and wouldn’t leave the basement. My mommy & daddy spent three hours down there with me while I walked back & forth in between them. I was basically marking them with my scent. They belong to me now.

After a while, they went upstairs into what used to be ‘their’ living room. Mommy sat at the top of the basement stairs and coaxed me up step by step. Then I explored the upstairs for about five minutes before I discovered there was yet ANOTHER floor.

Once I found what used to be ‘their’ king sized bed, I fell asleep for a while.

Since then, I wanted to let you all know that I have them both perfectly trained. I am fed no later than 8:00AM, my litter box is cleaned no later than 6:30, and I am brushed and groomed every Saturday. I even get a little bit of wet food every now and then. My favorite is Filet Mignon; of course.

I’ve taken over my parent’s fully furnished and carpeted basement with my numerous toy mice, my robe, (that used to be Dad’s) my scratching post and litter box. Dad and I play fetch with the toy mice every day.  I am very good about using my scratching posts; I know the difference between that and their nice new sectional. (P.S., the sectional is mine now, too.)

I follow Dad & Mom upstairs every night and sleep in between them. When it’s time to wake up, I like to ‘help’ Mom do her makeup. I used to be pretty curious about the bath tub, but that didn’t last too long.

Some of my favorite things to do are sit by the sliding door in the afternoon. There’s an AWESOME sunbeam that comes through after 2:00. I also like chilling out on the couch between Mom & Dad while their watching TV. I make sure that one of my toys are always at Dad’s feet when he wakes up, and I’m always there when he goes to sleep.

My Grandma has two cats and as soon as she found out I came home, she was there bearing toys & treats. I don’t like to think that I’m spoiled, but I certainly am. My role here is a stress reliever, a comedian, an acrobat, and most of all, an unconditional love to my Mom & Dad. They certainly saved my life and gave me a happy ending.

I’ve come a long way from the cage at the shelter. Now I have three floors to cover and get plenty of exercise. I have two parents that have no problem making me the center of attention at any time. I love them so much, and they love me as well.

So, thank you all very much for all that you did for me while I was there. If I hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t have met my new Mom & Dad who are the coolest!

Purrs And Paws,

Benjamin

Adopted: June 25th, 2007 - Beau (formerly Toby) and Adopted (?) - Dude

Hi, my name is Marisa and I am sending you some pictures of our “kids” 2 of which were rescued from Jersey Shore Animal Center. In the first picture is our Rat Terriers, Sadie (white one) and Beau (black one) AKA Toby, my husband and I saw Beau (Toby) on the petfinder website 2 years this time of year and I called about him and the girls down in the office already had all his adoption paperwork ready for me to sign since we had a rat terrier already that we saved we adopted our big guy Dude, who is pictured in the next clip, years prior from JSAC.

The funny thing is Dude and Beau are the best of friends; Beau follows him around like the annoying little brother, stands on him, swats him in the face, and chase each other in the yard for hours! Sadie is the princess of the house she rules both especially Dude and he doesn’t really appreciate a 13lb Rat Terrier dominating him but he does. People don’t realize what great animals you find in shelters, although not easy sometimes, these animals go through heck, and they just need some time and a caring and patient heart to make excellent family members!!

Adopted: April 10th, 2009 - Star

I adopted Star April 10, 2009.  I am attaching photos showing her with Molly, who I also adopted from JSAC in 1998 and has given me so many wonderful years.  Sadly, Molly has cancer, which causes her to have seizures and I will soon have to say 'goodbye' to her.   When I saw Star on your website--I thought this would be the perfect dog for my situation, but was unsure if it was the right thing to do while Molly was not feeling so well.  I brought Molly up to meet Star to see how it would go.  Needless to say it went very well and Star came home with us!  She has fit in to my home very well.  She understands that Molly is old and sick and quietly sits back and allows Molly to be number one for everything.  Molly has had a couple of seizures since Star has come home and Star sits back quietly and shows so much concern and is there to comfort Molly when it is over.  Star is also great with my 90 year old mother.  My mother simply loves her!  Star also loves all the kitties in the house.  I most recently brought home a kitten to foster and have learned that Star is fantastic with the kitten.  The kitten climbs all over her and Star just loves the attention!  She is a great foster mom.  Star loves going for car rides and long walks.  She is doing wonderful and we love her to death!  Thank you for allowing me to give another great dog a forever home!

Adopted: October 2002 - Daisy

Attached are pictures taken today of Daisy. She was adopted in October, 2002 and we moved from Point Pleasant in February, 2004. Daisy is alive and well in Cape Coral, Florida. She loves to spend time on the lanai lying by the pool and has many dog friends, especially Dixie and Hunter the Airedales, next door, with whom she runs the fence. She is the social butterfly of the local dog world.

Daisy has become Aunt Daisy to my two grandchildren, Anthony 6 years and Anna 11 months. They live close by and she is always excited for their arrival. They stay over some nights and she is exhausted when they leave as she is their shadow the entire time they are here watching them closely. She sits at the edge of the pool even though she is not partial to swimming herself to be assured they are OK.

We do quite a bit of entertaining, especially for large groups. Everyone welcomes her to the parties as her social graces are always in place.

To say that she is a happy and healthy (albeit allergies notorious to the Westie breed) is an understatement. Just wanted to send our hellos and let you know she is an integral part of the family and is spoiled rotten. She gets special Daisy (roast chicken, potatoes and peas and carrots, as well as yogurt) dinners made especially with her allergies in mind. We are mindful of the extreme heat of summer and she has adapted to staying in air-conditioning during the hot days. We have experienced many hurricanes, including Charlie the first year here, and she understands the “rains are coming you need to go out” and does it willingly. It is amazing to me how much she understands and responds.

Daisy loves riding in the convertible with the top down and fur flying. She is harnessed in the front seat and is happy to interact with people at traffic lights.

Well, we send our best from Southwest Florida and thank you for her rescue so she could join our family.

Adopted: April 24th, 2009 - Olive (formerly Georgia)

My plan was to drop off a donation one day and I decided that since I had some time I would stay and take a tour to meet some animals. When I saw Georgia (now Olive) our eyes met, and I fell in love. We adopted Olive on April 24th and she is such a joyful soul to have as part of our family.

The day we brought her home and let her explore, she was curious and by the wag of that tail, we knew she was so happy. She loves to snuggle and get close to our older cat Chloe, she loves to bury her head into my arms and often makes her way into my lap during TV time at nite. We think her favorite things to do are bum rushing Chloe to play and to wake us everynite around 4am with her ritual of walking across our heads in bed and figuring out how to get under the covers between us.

She is a sweetheart with a kind soul and eyes that would melt any heart. We would like to thank everyone at Jersey Shore for their help and for everything they do to make sure all of their animals, Cats, Dogs, Rabbits ect. are taken care of and loved very much. You are all wonderful for what you do for those that can't speak or do for themselves. Thank you for bringing Olive (formerly Georgia) into our lives. She is a very happy girl and we love her very much! :)

Adopted: March 10th, 2009 - Cassidy

Just wanted to take a minute and send you some pictures of Cassidy.  She is one of the pitbull puppies from the litter of 12 which we adopted on approximately March 3rd.   Cassidy is 16 weeks old now and is doing great in our home with our other adult dog.  She gets lots of exercise while running in the yard and playing with him.  Cassidy also enjoys her long walks and walks great on her leash with her big brother (Bear).   We feel we are so lucky to have her. Thanks again for everything.

Adopted: April 25th, 2009 - Kara

Hi everyone!

I want to give you an update on Kara, the 8-month old cat adopted by my mother Lucille  04/25/09...

My mother recently lost her beloved companion Jesse, whom was 11 years old. Jesse was adopted from your facility in 1998 as a gift for my mother when she was recuperating from a serious illness. That little cat lifted my mother's spirits and gave her a purpose for rising each morning. A few years later, my father was hospitalized for his own serious illness and required a lengthy home recovery. Jesse the cat was his companion, and lifted his spirits during that time.

In 2001, Jesse develepoed her own very serious health issues. She had been born with a congenital heart condition, which necessitated many trips and treatments at Garden State Veterinary Specialists. As a beloved member of our family, we spared no expense for Jesse's treatments and medications. Sadly, Jesse succumbed to a saddle thrombis earlier this year. We were told surgery would be very traumatic, recovery would be painful, and she would likely live for just a few days afterward anyway. As a final act of love, we had no choice but to euthanize Jesse.

Since my father's passing in July 2006, Jesse kept my mother company on a daily basis. Since Jesse's passing, my mother became very sad as she was now truly alone. While I do visit her daily, she still felt alone. I suggested another cat, but mom was somewhat resistant as she felt she would be replacing Jesse.

After a while, and as the loneliness began to increase, mom felt she would like to get another cat. At her age, a kitten would not be advisable as she does not have the energy that would require. I suggested an older cat, and she agreed.

As you can see from the attached pictures, Kara is very happy in her new home, and truly loves her new caretaker! It took exactly one day for Kara to become comfortable enough to start sleeping in my mother's bed, and spending the afternoon sitting on her lap watching TV together! Although she is my mother's pet, I also love her, and will do my part to spoil her and make sure she gets all she deserves!

I hope you enjoyed this story!

Adopted: January 30th, 2009 - Mickey and Mikey

Hi JSAC staff!

Just wanted to let you all know how Mikey & Mickey are doing.  We adopted them Jan. 2009 and they were quite nervous for the first week. Below is a picture of Mickey hiding under my kitchen hutch, he lived under there for several days.  However, after that first week, these handsome boys moved in and stole our hearts.  I know you all were concerned how they would be with our 2 youngest daughters who are 3 and 1.  Well, they are AMAZING!  My girls love them to pieces and the cats are so tolerant, they have never even tried to scratch them.  Mikey has turned out to be more of a lap cat than Mickey and they are both just the biggest mushes!  Although they have their crazy moments that kittens have (typically at 2 a.m....LOL) when they are running around getting into everything they can find, they are just the sweetest boys!  We couldn't be happier with our decision to adopt not only one cat, but TWO!  Thank you for providing them such a loving environment until they made their way home!

Adopted: February 10th, 1998 - Athena

Dear Staff at JS Animal Center:

On February 10th, 1998, we adopted Athena from the Jersey Shore Animal Center.  She was very skinny, scared and shy.   Athena was about two when we adopted her.   She slowly gained weight, and became a friendly, well behaved, and lovable pet.  She was the best friend of our Doberman, who passed away last spring.  Athena is recovering from her sadness over the loss of her best friend, and has now formed an inseparable bond with my husband.  She comes camping with us, and she enjoys walks with him.  Athena, now 13, has given us many years of joy.

Most sincerely,
Trudy G.

Adopted: March 13, 2009 - Precious (formerly Ginny)

Just thought I would send you a few pictures of Ginny, now Precious in her new home. She has gotten completely comfortable and it is the other one, my big guy who isn't sure what to do. There has been some hissing and snarling once, but she is respectful of him and hasn't tried to play with him yet or anything. She just walks away. He is starting to get closer to her though which I feel is a good sign. Actually I think she is trying to tease him and she will watch him back.

Adopted: May 29, 2008 - Murphy (formerly Buzz)

Hey Guys! I promised Susan I would send this in eventually... So here he is.
My name is Alison, and I am a staff member of JSAC. I am also, like most of the staff there, an adopter. I adopted Murphy (formerly 'Buzz') the cockatiel from JSAC back in May of 2008.

When Murphy (Buzz) first came to us, we were shocked to find that someone had intentionally cut almost his entire beak off. For the first two months or so, I had to put all of his food into a coffee grinder, and mash it so he would be able to eat it without his beak.

As you guys can all see, his beak is almost all grown back, and he is doing great. Dispite my jokes of him being a 'grumpy old man' he, along with my two parakeets Tessie and Celtic, are my own little kids.

So here's your update guys, see you all at work. =)

Adopted: December 22, 2009 - Jingles (formerly Pigeon)

I just wanted to give you an update on the kitten formally known as Pigeon.  She has taken the adopted name of Jingles, but is often referred as Precious.  She loves to run and play with JR and Nicole who can’t find enough hours in the day to play with her.  I caught a picture of Nicole as she was upstairs in the dog bed, reading her book to Jingles … so cute.  Every night she makes her rounds as they sleep, stopping and sleeping a while with each one but is always up and ready each morning as I head down to make the coffee.  She and her sister  Babe, our yellow lab, grow more affectionate each and every day and often can be seen touching noses as they say hello.  Breakfast and dinner are always a good time to watch them as they tend to stand next to each other and eat.  If we didn’t oversee dinner, Babe would stand there and watch as Jingles ate her dog food before eating her own.

I have attached a couple of pictures for your viewing and just wanted to say we’re glad we have her in our home.

Adopted: June 29th, 2008 - Victor and Vincent

Dear friends at Jersey Shore:

In July,  we adopted Vincent and Victor. At first we were thinking of renaming the two boys, but we decided not to change their names since they had had those names for a year already at the shelter.  Vincent , the fluffy one, has been social right from the start. He loves to be petted and brushed. He loves to eat too. He will eat his "brother's" food if we let him. Victor comes to us to be petted now ,but does not like to be picked up for long. He does not run away or hide as he did in the beginning. He will sleep near us now during the day. Vincent will sleep in our bed at night and enjoys running after and retrieving foil balls  from the pet store.

They stay up at night chasing each other and getting into mischief .The piano shown in the photo is now covered to limit scratches. They have put some furry craziness back into our house after the passing of our cat Butterscotch  in the spring. Just wanted you to know the boys are doing well. They send all of you their love this holiday season and thank you for all you tender care. Thank you for all you do .

Best wishes and Merry Christmas, The S. Family

Adopted: August 19th, 2008 - Maxine and Ceasar

I talked to you earlier about the two persians we adopted from you a few months ago. They were originally Ceaser and Maxine, we changed their names to Oscar and Little Peep. Here are some pictures of them and our other 2 persians, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, they all get along good and we are all one big happy family. Thank you for choosing us to be their caretakers.

Sincerely, Kathy

P.S. Your shelter is very well run and your critters are taken care of with love. The best we've seen yet, we always recommend you to people looking for a pet. Thanks again.

Adopted: January 5th, 2005 - Diesel

Hello Everyone at the Shelter,

My Name is Pat P., We adopted a Choc. lab Diesel, January 5, 2005. I was not sure what to do, we had a Golden Retriever for 16 yrs and had to put him down suddenly. So it took us just over 2 years to decide on getting another dog. So one day we decided to go in and look.

Much to our surprise, that day we went in, was on a Wednesday and we looked and came upon Deisel, however, we were looking for another golden, but when I saw Deisel, I couldn't resist, you guys took him out for us to play with and get to know him a bit, and all he had to do was lick my face and it was all over with, I said ok he is ours. Love at first lick per say. So we ended up picking Diesel up the following week, and ever since then he has been our pride and joy.. We had him in training with Kindred Souls and he came in first place.

I think that Diesel is very happy with us and not crated like he was with his other owners. He is happy, playful, took alot of work to get him to where is  now. He's a loving dog and great personality of his own. He still tilts his head when you talk to him. I'm sending you a few pictures along also. He is getting so much better in the car so some day we will bring him in so you can all see him.. Thank You All Again.

Thank you JSAC!
The P. Family

Adam - foster dog May 2008; officially adopted Sep 2008
Mandy - adopted July 2008

Greetings from 3 very spoiled dogs!  Adam (black chow mix) and Mandy (yellow lab) have settled in just fine with Missy.  Adam first joined our little family in May as a foster dog while recovering from heartworm.  He's grown strong and in Sep he became an official member of the "family".

Mandy joined "the family" in July - she's all legs!  She's quite agile for a senior... enjoying long walks, rides and adventures to the dog park.

Missy has really livened up since her "family" grew.  She lost her sister in Nov 2007 and was sad.  She now is very happy to have playmates once again!  It's so nice to see Adam chasing Missy around the dining room table!  Never a dull moment here...

Thank you to Jersey Shore Animal Center for giving Adam and Mandy a second chance!  Keep up the good work!!

Hugs from Nancy, Missy, Adam and Mandy

Adopted: January 16, 2008 - Lady

I walked into the shelter just to browse, with no intention of adopting a pet. So as I walked around the shelter I spotted this 115 lb Mastiff named Lady that touched my heart. She was in the shelter for two months because a 6 yr old Mastiff doesn't have the best of shots getting adopted due to their life expectancy. Which now almost a year later, she still out-runs me around the block.

I asked to fill out an application and after a week of other pending families and taking my mom there, she was home with us.

At 22 years old she is the greatest part of my life. We got her just last February and it has been nothing but the most joy we could ask for. She is definitely my best friend. And the cutest dog in the whole world. Dog's and animals in general have that ability to turn your worst day into happiness and that's what Lady has done. We love taking her for walks and rides where she sticks her ginormous head out the window and causes much attention. She has become such an important part of my family and I think adopting her was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

So if you do decide you want to get an animal, please adopt. These animals should know just how great they really are. And they'll bring out the great in you as well.

Adopted: October 3, 2008 - Chloe (formerly Cuddles) and Jade (formerly Annie)

Hello everyone, We want to thank you so much for allowing us to adopt Cuddles & Annie We have renamed Cuddles Chloe, and Annie is Jade (Best friends from a Children's movie).

It is an honor to have them join our family. They are so happy to have remained together. We love how they snuggle up to each other. They are so sweet and affectionate and have settled right in like they were born here.

We are so proud to have given them a forever home. Our hearts are filled with such joy to have them, and they really love it here.

Thank you for the wonderful work you do.

Mary W.

Adopted: December 23, 2005 - Sammy (formely Jacob) and Maya (formerly Mora)

Hello! We adopted Sammy (black and white) and Maya (brown tabby) in December of 2005. We visited the shelter following the loss of our cat, deciding in advance that we were just going to "look" and would not make any hasty decisions. We didn't count on being "picked" by Sammy and Mora. Sammy stuck his paws out of the cage, grabbed on to me and did not let go. Maya immediately fell in love with my husband. She settled herself on his lap and stared up at him lovingly. Since then, we have taken in two other rescued cats, and Sammy has been the welcoming committee. He makes sure the new kitties feel welcome and keeps them company until they are settled in. He is also the peacekeeper, breaking up any fights and making sure everyone gets along. Maya still lives for my husband; she follows him around and stares at him lovingly. We just couldn't imagine life without our wonderful animals and are so grateful for the JSAC for bringing them to us!

Sincerely,

Viola, Augie, Sammy, Maya, Maggie and Leo

Adopted: July 1, 2008 - Beau

Dear Staff and Volunteers

I just want to let you know that Beau has passed his basic obedience classes @ Kindred Souls Training Center. Peter Campione was a great help to us both, mostly to me. Beau has adjusted well to us all , the neighbors are always dropping in to see him. He loves his deck outside and is always willing to go for a walk. We are going to continue w/ the advanced class @ the end of October . I just want to thank all of you for you help and support for Beau. We'll be by to see you all soon.

Thank You

Charlie & Charlaine E.

Adopted: August 2nd, 2008 - Cosmo

Hi Folks,

We just wanted to give you guys an update on our beloved Cosmo. It was just a short time ago Cosmo came into our lives and everyday has been a treat that keeps on giving.

We have three other fabulous felines and Cosmo has adopted Buddy as his pal. They're both one year olds, believe it or not, just four days apart. Cosmo has really taken up with Buddy and they're now inseparable. It's really a blast having Cosmo rub around our legs looking for more chow:-)

We have enclosed two photos, one is of all four "brothers" at feeding time (called Todd's Quad), the other is of Cosmo, on the right, and his pal Buddy. The words around our house now are play, sleep, eat and play some more. Thanks for such a wonderful addition to our little colony.

June & Todd O.

Adopted: June 14, 2008 - Masey (formely Lacey)

To My Friends at The Jersey Shore Animal Shelter,

I visited your shelter earlier this summer with hopes of adopting a dog. Your helpful staff introduced me to several dogs, and I eventually made the choice to adopt Lacey, who I now call Masey. Since adoption, Mase slowly came around and became less and less shy. Masey took to me almost immediately, but it took her several months to warm up to my father whom I live with. While her shyness originally frustrated me, I found the process of her warming up to people to be both fascinating and rewarding. I rarely leave the house without Mase. We enjoy taking trips to the beach, hiking the Sourland Mountains, hanging around the river where I frequently fish, and attending bonfires with my friends. I have found that while Mase is shy around people she thoroughly enjoys the company of other dogs. Since, I have realized this I began to take her to dog parks, and socialize her with several friend's dogs. Among her canine pals is Anna who you will see in several pictures. Her love for other dogs, and her desire for canine companionship is the source for my strong desire to adopt another dog at some point. When this day comes, I know where I will go to find another great dog! In short, I would like to thank you for your helpfulness at your facility, but for introducing me to my new companion!

Sincerely,
Becky S.

June 22, 2008 -  Malcolm (formerly Derek) and Adian (formerly Donny)

Hello! I would love to give you an update on our babies that we adopted from you! We adopted Malcolm (black and white cat formerly known as Derek) and Aidan (tan cat formerly known as Donny) back in June of 2007. Then, in October of 2007, we added Lucy (black and grey cat formerly known as Carmella) to our family. You don't even know how much we love them!!! They are the best kitties and all of our friends and family can not believe how friendly and lovey they are. They bring such joy to our lives and we love them so much! Aidan follows us around and loves to lay with us, especially on our chests. Malcolm was so skiddish and afraid when we first brought him home, but now he is just the sweetest, most laid-back, friendly cat ever. And, Lucy is just so funny. She never stops meow-ing and has grown into such a love bug. They are all doing great and we thank you so much for rescuing them and taking such great care of them so we could adopt and love them.

Love always,
Pete, Jackie, Malcolm, Aidan and Lucy :)

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to give you an update on Charlie (Hobbes).  He's doing really well.  Everyone who meets him just thinks he's the cutest thing.  Our other dog Kerry seems to really like playing with him but does take a well deserved break from him sometimes!  You should see him run in the backyard. He is so fast.  He actually leaps when he gets going!  He is great with the girls and is learning which toys are theirs and which are his.  We are working on stay and come commands and walking on a leash.  He's a wonderful addition to our family and we love him bunches!

Hello Jersey Shore Animal Center!

Just an update on Hagan (aka: Nikko). He is a VERY BIG boy now. We joke he must be part dinosaur. He is a little over 100 lbs, (don't get worried he's not overweight), the vet says he should stay where he's at now. He goes for walks a lot and to the dog park often. He plays with all sorts of dogs from very small to large and hasn't met another dog he doesn't get along with. His best friend is a pit bull Rufus and he even has a German Shepherd girlfriend Lola. He truly is a gentle giant. I cannot tell you how happy I am with him. His personality is amazing. I have had several Shepherds in my lifetime but Hagan is truly one in a million. He is the first male I have ever owned and I can say this, he is a talker! Wow! Anyway I have attached some new photos of him, and his cat Luna, they are now 'friends'? She lets him know who is boss... hey, she was here first! He loved the snow, and also his new pair of Doggles. They use them in Iraq with military K9s to protect against sun/sand. Well, thanks again for my new best friend!

Nicole
